Duration03/2000 - 11/2005

The project introduced environmental management practices, primarily in selected industries of the textile and leather sector, thus, contributing to the improvement of the environmental situation in the region, specifically with regard to water and waste.

This was achieved by encouraging companies to select and implement suitable measures at product, process and managerial level to reduce consumption of inputs (energy, water and raw material) as well as effluents and waste.

The systemic approach involved all actors (individuals, company management and employees, chambers, associations, NGOs and government institutions) and included components such as awareness rising, competency and capacity building, as well as pilot measures in selected areas and industries. An essential aspect was the co-ordination and co-implementation of activities with other projects, organisations and companies (PPP) in the field of environmental protection.
