Viet Nam: Ground-breaking Ceremony for VCMI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) for ‘Green’ TVET

On 5 December 2020, the ground-breaking ceremony for the ‘Green’ TVET CoE building took place at the Campus of the Vocational College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI) in Dong Nai province.

The new building will host workshops, classrooms, and an information centre; specifically, for the following two occupations, that will be piloted according to German standards at VCMI together with other partner enterprises:

  • Mechanics for Sanitary, Heating and Climate Technology
  • Electronics for Energy and Building Technology

Both were developed in cooperation with GIZ together with relevant Vietnamese stakeholders in order to support the VCMI to become a CoE for Green TVET providing demand-oriented initial and further training based on international standards.

The scheduled completion of construction works is in February 2022 (15 months). A consulting consortium led by PEM Consult GmbH is the appointed ‘Engineer’ in charge of providing technical supervision for the construction works and administrating the construction contract on behalf of the ‘Employer’ (VCMI).

The construction measures and the provision of the required training equipment are part of the “Programme Reform of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) – Centre of Excellence (CoE) for ‘Green’ TVET”, which is financed through a loan of EUR 9.1 million provided by the KfW Development Bank.

The Programme is part of the German Financial Cooperation (FC) with the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
