Job Fair: Career opportunities for youth in The Gambia

From May 27th to May 28th a Job Fair took place in the city of Brikama in The Gambia. The event that was held on the Brikama branch of the Gambia College aimed at providing opportunities to facilitate information sharing and exchange between job seekers and potential employers. Almost 1000 visitors had an opportunity to benefit from various services such as career guidance and counselling, skills training and business advisory were provided during the Job Fair.  

Representatives from various companies were present during the Job Fair, providing information on job vacancies and hiring suitable candidates on the spot. Furthermore, 40 scholarship opportunities for vocational training in CCTV networking and hairdressing and 200 mini grants for TVET graduates and prospective entrepreneurs were provided. More than 350 individuals benefitted from career guidance and counselling sessions.

During an employment panel discussion, governments representatives, employers and other stakeholders provided important information on employment policy and the labour market.

The Brikama Job Fair was one of two Job Fairs that are to be held as part of the GIZ project “Support to PME Advisory Centres in The Gambia regarding Employment Promotion, Career Guidance and Capacity Development”, was organized and facilitated by PEM Consult in close coordination and cooperation with GIZ’s national partner, the Gambian Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE). A second Job Fair in the Greater Banjul Area is scheduled to be held in November 2022.
