The aim of the overall project is the structural improvement of the conditions for cooperation between development cooperation and German and European industry. The Agency for Economic and Development Affairs (AWE) would like to establish a long-term German-African Young Leaders Network together with the BMZ to connect committed and creative young decision-makers from business, politics and media and initiate an international exchange. The project is to work in the spirit of the "Marshall Plan with Africa":

  • Establishment of sustainable economic cooperation between Africa and Germany
  • Promotion and development of innovative ideas
  • Strengthening the German-African dialogue through direct contacts

The German-African Young-Leaders Network is designed to last several years and is intended to bring together German and African managers from different areas
together. In the second step the establishment of an alumni network is planned. During the currently planned two-year project period, two cohorts of 40 participants each (20 from Germany, 20 from each of the African target countries) will participate in the German-African "Young Leaders Network". In the first year, the programme will focus on the three countries Ghana, Ethiopia and Rwanda.  Due to the current relevance and urgency of the topic, a focus should be placed on the challenges and consequences of the Covid 19 pandemic. Through direct encounters and exchanges between participants based on partnership, the development of innovative ideas and projects should be promoted and the foundation for sustainable cooperation laid. This includes viable innovative entrepreneurial and social concepts, e.g. to strengthen public health care, but also to support economic, social and societal challenges.
