Environment and infrastructure

The environment sector is PEM’s youngest work field. Since the mid 90s environmental management has become the third largest field of our expertise. In 2010 PEM increased the environmental expertise in the head office to further strengthen the competence in this field and to develop it strategically as a core consulting sector.

Private sector competitiveness and environmental sustainability are mutually rein-forcing concepts. PEM aims to contribute to enable enterprises to prosper, thus helping to maximise their contribution to sustainable development. Moving towards sustainable production and consumption, environmental issues are to be managed along all stages of the product life-cycle. This contributes to minimise the overall negative environmental effects of products and their manufacturing. Environmental improvements and remediation make industrial and commercial growth sustainable. Our efforts in many projects concentrate on developing intermediary institutions creating awareness and initiating the necessary changes in management and production. This is supported by measures insuring adequate and sustainable infrastructure development on municipal and regional level in the fields of water, sewage and waste management.

PEM promotes the mainstreaming of sustainable development as a balanced development approach of economic, environmental, and societal concerns. This includes climate change mitigation and adaptation services on a participatory basis as well as the promotion of green markets. Next to this, we work on preventive and rehabilitation strategies and measures directly related to environmental media. We approach these tasks together with renowned expert institutes in order to include the latest state of the art and combine this with our international development cooperation expertise.
